Boss, You’re Wrong

I get the sense many more of us need to get comfortable saying: ‘Boss, You’re Wrong.’

I’m prepping right now for a talkback session about how to create healthy debate in workplace teams on ABC Radio NSW (this afternoon at 4:10pm - call in if you want to participate!).

And as I'm making a few notes about why this isn't more common, I'm jotting down how best to help leaders — particularly emerging leaders — AND their teams feel empowered to speak up.

Leaders need to create a culture that draws out the solutions and ideas sitting within their teams. It starts with them. But no one likes being told they're wrong, so how can leaders and teams work best together, and what does honest, constructive #LoveLeadership look like?

I'd love to hear your experiences as I prepare.

If you're a leader, when have you encouraged this in your teams and what changed? Or if you've been part of a team in the past that didn't speak up, what 'barriers' stopped people from sharing their views?
