Margot Faraci On Sky News Live: Leadership In Difficult Times

JUNE 5, 2023

How do you be a powerful leader in difficult times? Join with the experts to present a unified position and do what’s right, not what’s popular.

I was on Sky News talking about this in the lead up to the June RBA meeting.

The impacts of leading in partnership cannot be overstated. British and EU leaders have partnered to support Ukrainian war efforts. Australian leaders joined with medical experts in Covid and presented a unified approach.  And we saw the opposite in the US: President Trump scapegoated Dr Fauci, creating division and fear. Dr Fauci says: "we are the richest country in the world, and on a per-capita basis we’ve done worse than virtually all other countries (having)...1.1 million deaths. Unacceptable."

Partnering in leadership is never smooth and frustrations will emerge. Keep all that to yourself, set your ego aside and work it out privately.

Today, inflation is running high, we are all poorer and those hardest hit by inflation are also hardest hit by higher rates.

So, in the absence of inflation-busting Federal Budget decisions, what's the next best thing Government can do? Demonstrate a unified commitment with the RBA to bringing inflation down.

The same goes for all of us in our own leadership: if you set aside personal differences to partner with experts, you create greater-good outcomes.  And your people will trust you to do what's right.

Choose a more powerful path.
