World Mental Health Day 2022

On #worldmentalhealthday2022, it’s worth recognising that one in ten people globally live with mental health disorders.

We’re not psychologists, we’re corporate leaders. So what is our leadership responsibility on mental health?

First, start with yourself. Do you love yourself enough to set and maintain self-care boundaries so that you can achieve sustainable high performance?

Second, your team. The first responsibility of any leader is to create safety: when your team feels safe they’ll have more connection and happiness.

Creating safety doesn’t mean avoiding the unpleasant. Your team will feel safe when expectations are clear and fair, you listen to understand, use the lessons from mistakes and ensure that every member is the right fit for their role, without compromise.

These are hard things to do. But being a leader includes doing things that are hard.

Do you love your business enough to be clear, fair and brave?
